Summary

The classic heartwarming tale from Kate DiCamillo--now with an afterword from the beloved author, reflecting on twenty years in print

One summer's day, ten-year-old India Opal Buloni goes down to the local supermarket for some groceries--and comes home with a dog。 But Winn-Dixie is no ordinary dog。 It's because of Winn-Dixie that Opal begins to make friends。 And it's because of Winn-Dixie that she finally dares to ask her father about her mother, who left when Opal was three。 In fact, as Opal admits, just about everything that happens that summer is because of Winn-Dixie。 This updated edition of Kate DiCamillo's classic novel invites readers to make themselves at home--whether they're experiencing the book for the first time or returning to an old favorite。

My favourite novel ever! Hope and love are really shown to young readers in this book。 From the first chapter of the book, I felt emotionally attached to the story。 It really stood out for me because I loved Winn-Dixie and everything else about it。 It was well written。 When I read the second chapter, it became really interesting。

A short book that addresses run off parents, alcohol addiction, teasing and judging others through the experience of a young girl that’s new to town and her dog。 The best part about it are the strong anti-war comments。 I think as an adult I can appreciate these topics but I’m not sure if children will。 Over all it is pretty uneventful, which isn’t necessarily a fault as I feel it was intended to be so - a “day in the life” sort of story。 For that it is accomplished, but it’s just not a story for A short book that addresses run off parents, alcohol addiction, teasing and judging others through the experience of a young girl that’s new to town and her dog。 The best part about it are the strong anti-war comments。 I think as an adult I can appreciate these topics but I’m not sure if children will。 Over all it is pretty uneventful, which isn’t necessarily a fault as I feel it was intended to be so - a “day in the life” sort of story。 For that it is accomplished, but it’s just not a story for me。 。。。more

*4。5This book is the embodiment of that warm and fuzzy feeling。 I really needed something light and happy to get me out of a reading slump and this one couldn't be more perfect。 Given that it's a children's book, it's a super quick read。 There are also so many quirky side characters that you really love by the end of the story。 Add in a sweet rescue dog and we are close to perfection。 Kate DiCamillo's writing is also so wonderful。 I love how she writes from a child's point of view, and yet there *4。5This book is the embodiment of that warm and fuzzy feeling。 I really needed something light and happy to get me out of a reading slump and this one couldn't be more perfect。 Given that it's a children's book, it's a super quick read。 There are also so many quirky side characters that you really love by the end of the story。 Add in a sweet rescue dog and we are close to perfection。 Kate DiCamillo's writing is also so wonderful。 I love how she writes from a child's point of view, and yet there are so many elements and themes that I can relate to as a current 21 year old。 Particularly, how she describes the candy。 If you know, you know。 Lots of love for this sweet tale。 。。。more

I loved this book a lot, but I got confused on the plot and what was happening quite a few times。 I wasn’t too sure about the characters also。 I love Winn-Dixie in general, but all the little bumps in the story started to affect how I saw almost all the characters…including the dog。I wish this could’ve been a bit better, but I still like it and I was still happy to read it。 I read it awhile ago though, and it was slightly a slow-paced book, so I like quicker plotted ones now, and I can’t help my I loved this book a lot, but I got confused on the plot and what was happening quite a few times。 I wasn’t too sure about the characters also。 I love Winn-Dixie in general, but all the little bumps in the story started to affect how I saw almost all the characters…including the dog。I wish this could’ve been a bit better, but I still like it and I was still happy to read it。 I read it awhile ago though, and it was slightly a slow-paced book, so I like quicker plotted ones now, and I can’t help myself。This isn’t going to be a long review, because I don’t have a lot to say about the book。 But I liked it, and that’s all for now。Three stars :) 。。。more

One of my favorite booksI love this book it is one of my all time favorites。 If someone asked me to say my favorite book not in a series I would pick this one。 I first read it a few years ago and forgot about it and only recently I found it again。

A book about a young girl that builds relationships with a dog, librarian, and an older blind lady。 Opal experiences a lot of things and even losing her best friend Winn-Dixie, but in the end it is okay because they find her。 I would use this book to teach about friendships and the social-emotional aspect。

Very sweet and worthy of ideas even an adult can embrace and learn from。This is DiCamillo's first book and well worth the read。India Opal is the main character。 She has just moved to a new town, her father is a preacher, and her mother has left the family because she did not want to be a preacher's wife。 A shaggy dog who Opal found in the local grocery store fills the void。 Other memorable characters abound in the story as well。5 stars Very sweet and worthy of ideas even an adult can embrace and learn from。This is DiCamillo's first book and well worth the read。India Opal is the main character。 She has just moved to a new town, her father is a preacher, and her mother has left the family because she did not want to be a preacher's wife。 A shaggy dog who Opal found in the local grocery store fills the void。 Other memorable characters abound in the story as well。5 stars 。。。more

This was my favorite book when I was in 4th grade and this is the first time I’m revisiting it。 I had lost all memories of it but still knew that I loved it。 As we grow up we forgot to understand things simply and complicate situations with overthinking and what-ifs。 There’s something that Gloria Dump says to India Opal that are much needed words for those who’ve lost the ability to see things so simply。 “There ain’t no way you can hold on to something that’s wants to go, you understand? I used to read this book over and over as a kid- whenever I felt sad or alone in the world, I knew I would be comforted by these pages, like a warm hug。Now, as a 22 year old who was feeling particularly sad and alone in the world a moment ago, I picked this book up again。 I read it cover to cover and cried ugly tears; No book has ever made me feel so loved, validated and worthy as the Tale of Winn Dixie。Thankyou, Kate DiCamillo。 Thankyou so, so much

A peaceful and adorable story that helps us forget the boredom and fatigue after stressful working days。 Reading this book at night and listening to the sound of the rain falling outside, the feeling at that time was extremely peaceful。 The magical feeling when I read The Secret Garden came rushing back, and I knew that I had found another favorite story book :))
